The Blessing of Water

Charity: Water was founded in 2006.  Since then, it has implemented 44,007 clean water projects in 27 countries, working with established local partners to create and maintain clean water operations.  In 2015, they initiated a sensor based, cloud computing component to begin to monitor the output and viability of each of their projects. Their techniques and project information are fully shared with others.

They actually have two funding bases—one to fund their operating costs and the other to fund projects. They allocate 100% of their public donations for projects only.  A parishioner brought this organization to our attention—and it will be our outreach plate-offering recipient for October.  The plate offering will be taken up this Sunday, October 20.  Please give generously.

Liturgical Notes: On Kneeling

In the language of liturgical postures, kneeling is a posture that conveys either a request or an expression of awe. We see that asking posture in our everyday experience when a person gets down on a knee to ask another person to marry them. When someone is overwhelmed by an experience, we sometimes say that they were “brought to their knees.”

While the Book of Common Prayerdoes not require it, some choose to kneel at the Prayers of the People, as we are asking God to hear and grant our prayers. Again, while it is not required, some choose to kneel at the Confession, as we ask God to forgive our sins.

The Prayerbookalso gives us the option of standing or kneeling during the Eucharistic Prayer. In this prayer, we come face to face with the Real Presence of God in the bread and wine, the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. Surely that is an awe-ful/full-of-awe experience, and for some people, kneeling may be the appropriate response to God’s gift of Self to us.
