September Plate Offering—Addressing Hunger
National Hunger Awareness Month is observed during September so it seems appropriate to make our plate offering on 15 September for our Diocesan Task Force on Hunger (see:
https://www.diocesemo.org/ministries/task-force-hunger).
The Task Force meets monthly to support food ministries (especially in our diocese), raise awareness about hunger issues, and advocate for the needs of persons who are hungry. The group encourages applications from Episcopal parishes for small grants for food ministries.

New Meeting Room
Please note the old nursery room is being set up as a Meeting Room. Additional changes are being planned for this room so stay tuned. If you are interested, on the far right end of the bookcase in the new meeting room you will find a notebook with the Bishop’s Committee minutes and monthly financials. Love is the way!
National Church News: Love is the way! Ever wonder why the banner in front of Trinity says that or why we chose it for the Episcopal Campus Ministry t-shirts? The Most Rev. Michael Curry, Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church says that if it is not about love, it is not about God—and love is the way of God. You can find resources to help you get started or continue on this way of love, listen to podcasts of Presiding Bishop Curry speaking about the way of love, and watch videos of people living it out in their daily life.
Bishop Search Moves Forward
Diocesan News:The Diocese of Missouri is looking for a new Bishop. Currently, the Search Committee is busy with the initial screening and interviewing of potential candidates. In mid-September, members of the Search Committee and potential candidates will go on retreat together, and some time after September 26th, the slate of candidates will be announced. You will find a time line for the search, prayers for the Search Committee and other resources to help you understand the process.
ECM is Off to a Great Start
ECM had a great time at Truman’s Activities Fair. We talked to a variety of people, collected some contact information from interested students and handed out our colorful literature. It even provided an opportunity for interfaith and ecumenical cooperation as we lent our duct tape and scissors to several other groups that weren’t as prepared as we were. Next up on our agenda is our very first retreat on September 5 – 6 at the St. Joseph Retreat Center in Edina, MO. Please pray for us that we have a fruitful and fun retreat.

How are We Christians Changing—Emerging?
Adult Formation begins on September 3 from 6:30 – 7:30 pm. We are reading The Great Emergence: How Christianity Is Changing and Why by Phyllis Tickle. The book is available in a variety of formats on the Barnes and Noble website and on Amazon. (Don’t forget to use the Amazon smile feature to help Trinity.) Feel free to attend when you can, as often as you can.
The reading is divided up as follows: September 3 pp. 9 – 42; September 10 pp. 43 – 76; September 17 pp. 77 – 117; and September 24 pp. 119 – 163.

Liturgical Notes: This week we are changing up some of the ways that we worship and celebrate the Holy Eucharist. There are changes to the service music (the Gloria, the Sanctus and the Fraction Anthem), the Communion hymn and some of the prayers. But the most significant change is to the Eucharistic Prayer. The book of Common Prayer offers us 6 different forms of Eucharistic Prayers. Rite I offers Prayer I and Prayer II, and Rite II offers Eucharistic Prayers A, B, C and D. Each of the Prayers has a different flavor and feel to it, and may be more appropriate for one church season or another.
We are now using Rite II Prayer A and will use it until the end of the Season after Pentecost (sometimes also known as Ordinary Time) in November. This Prayer is the shortest of the 6 prayers, and has a somber tone. It focuses our attention on Jesus’ death as the way to our redemption. While it still feels like summer, already the days are growing shorter and soon the night will start earlier and last longer. The Church often uses the image of nighttime as a way to speak about human failings and sins. As the season changes around us, Eucharistic Prayer A reminds us that we need the life, death, and resurrection to set us free from an eternal night of sin.
