Lector Stephen Carr

Bursars Diane Johnson & Laura Gruber Harden
Adult Formation:  Adult Formation is on hiatus until fall.  Our thanks to Julia DeLancey, Joni Perry, and Carrol Davenport for providing us with much food for thought in their July sessions!
A New Vicar:  The Bishop’s Committee is pleased to announce that the Rev. Amy Fallon has accepted our call to be Trinity’s new vicar.  Rev. Fallon has five years of successful parish leadership experience in Hartford, Connecticut and Tiffin, Ohio (population 17,000+).  In addition, she has substantial ecumenical experience in campus ministry – first, as university vicar, the Episcopal Church at the University of Connecticut, and most recently, as campus pastor at Grace Place Campus Ministry at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, a combined ELCA Lutheran-Episcopal post.  She brings energy, creativity, and a deep commitment to spreading the word of the Gospel to share with us. Rev. Fallon’s first Sunday with us will be August 20.  We are indeed blessed – and, as Rev. Joe Chambers, Canon to the Ordinary, consistently reminded us over the last 15 months, we rejoice that “God is in the process!”
Electrical

Electrical Work:  Electrical work will begin in the kitchen and undercroft the week of July 31.  Please be aware that Jackson Electric will be using that space for work purposes and move optional activities elsewhere for the next few weeks.  They will begin the work in the sanctuary after the work in the undercroft. They are aware that we need the space to be usable on Sundays.

Transition Schedule for Priests:

August 6 –  Ray Hartjen presides and preaches; full Eucharist
August 13 – Morning Prayer (lay led); no Eucharist
August 20 – Amy Fallon presides and preaches (new vicar)

Morning Prayer:  Sunday, August 13, will be a Morning Prayer service (with music, no Eucharist).  Regular Morning Prayer (no music) is held every Wednesday at 7:30 a.m.

Thank You From Dennis Goodman:  Thanks for your prayers, texts, and calls of concern following my overnight “vacation” at Boone Hospital Center.  My three heart stents have already proven their ability to help me feel better.  Thanks to Rev. Carrol for her blessing, prayers, and visits.  Thanks also to Rev. Amy for her texts, emails, and prayers.  Your expressions of sympathy have also been appreciated due to the loss of my cousin’s wife, Lola Slater. You are the greatest! — Dennis Goodman

Vacation Bible School:  A big thank you to Elaine Aubuchon, Michele Yoder, and others for all the hard work with First Presbyterian’s Vacation Bible School this year (which is lovingly shared with Trinity).  It was delightful to see the children sing, play instruments, and demonstrate sign language at the service on June 23.  Another thank you to our Karen Croarkin for providing snacks for some days of VBS !

The Communication Committee:  The Communication Committee is seeking new members to replace members who have moved on to new locations and new duties.  The Committee is primarily responsible for maintaining the WHAT, the Trinity Website, and Social Media.  Never used these tools before?  Don’t worry, we’ll teach you.  Owning a computer and having a good Internet connection are a plus.  Send expressions of interest or questions to Kevin Minch at kevin.minch@gmail.com.

Mini Food Pantry

Little Food Pantry: Donations are needed.  Nonperishables, hygiene products, fresh produce that can withstand summer heat.  Please do not bring bread at this time – water condenses in the bread bag and mold follows.  Fall weather will be better for that.

Rummage Sale: It takes a lot of work to make this event happen for the community!  The first thank you’s go to Ian Lindevald for offering storage for all manner of things – and to Tim Baker and others (Mike Ashcraft, Carrol Davenport, student workers Wren and Sully) for moving all that stuff.  Then the pricing and organizing team went into action (Karen, Cybil, Kim, Dennis, Diane, Krista, Wynne, LaDonna, and others). It always seems like a miracle when a huge pile of stuff somehow gets organized and priced!  Then the sales team (the faces of Trinity to the rummage sale customers) made Saturday hum – thanks to Krista, Karen Henness, Cybil, Kim, LaDonna, Karen Croarkin, Julie, Diane, Dennis. We also want to thank the team from Helping Hands Mission who take what’s left from our sale and use it to support their mission of feeding and ministering to those who most need help in our community.  And finally, the whole thing couldn’t happen without our many generous donors of stuff – Julia and Pete, Joanne, Joyce Hearns, Krista and Tim, Karen Croarkin, and lots of others, including folks outside our congregation.  Yay, team!

Bishop’s Committee August Meeting: The Bishop’s Committee August meeting has been changed from the second Sunday to the third Sunday, August 20, after coffee hour.  As always, BC meetings are open to anyone in the congregation.
Food Depot:  Our Food Depot items for August: Cereal
Bill is always happy to get whatever we can bring.  He said that they served 35 families today; one family has 11 people (2 parents and 9 kids under 18)!  Wow.  He said the family numbers are ranging from about 25 to about 40.  That is a lot of hungry people.  So, we are helping keep hunger at bay for lots of folks. – Anne Moody

Lectionary Readings:

The deadline for next week’s WHAT is Noon, Thursday, August 10.  Please send items to BOTH Kevin Minch at kevin.minch@gmail.com and Natalie Alexander at faymie@gmail.com so that any relevant updates may also be included in the bulletin insert. Please be mindful of the deadline when possible.  Thanks!
