Office hours at Truman will begin again on Wednesday January 17, 2018 from 2 pm – 4 pm.  You do not need an appointment for any of these times, just drop by. If you would like to schedule an appointment, please call or text her at 815-901-3614.

Amy’s Winter Break:  Amy will be away celebrating the holidayswith her family in Arizona from December 26 until January 3. She will return to work on January 4, 2018. Our Bishop’s Warden, Diane Johnson, is available for any pastoral emergencies or concerns.

Christmas Season Flowers: given for the glory of God by Liz Srnka in loving memory of Al Srnka, and by Joanne Harwood in loving memory of the Harwood family.

Christmas Needs / Donation Success! – Thanks to the folks who donated Amazon and Walmart cards for the teens served by Victim Support Services in families served by VSS.  You have made their Christmas merrier!

Thanks to those who offered cash and checks last Sunday for our December outreach project – the Community Christmas Dinner on December 17 at Truman.  It was a massive effort.  Hundreds of people were served a turkey/ham dinner with all the trimmings.  Each child had a pink armband and a blue armband.  One allowed them to receive a gift for themselves and the other allowed them to choose a gift for someone else.  Food was also distributed at the end of the event.  A great example of Kirksville people caring for Kirksville people – and you helped!

Christmas Meal @ First UMC:  If you know someone who would like to join with others for a Christmas meal, remember that there will be a free dinner at the United Methodist Church on Christmas Day, beginning at 1 p.m.

Christmas/New Year’s Eve Worship Schedule:

  • Dec. 25 at 10 a.m. – Christmas Festive Holy Eucharist
  • Dec. 31 at 10 a.m. 1st Sunday after Christmas Holy Eucharist with the Rev. Ray Hartjen as guest clergy

Please plan to stay for refreshments after each of our services this weekend – Sunday morning, Sunday evening, and Monday morning!  Feel free to bring your company and/or something you’d like to share with others.

Mitten Tree Update:  We donated 36 hats, 4 sets of scarves and matching hats, 6 scarves, and 4 pairs of gloves to Salvation Army for distribution with their Christmas boxes this Tuesday.  The mitten tree will still be active through this Sunday – we will put any scarves, hats, mittens, gloves, etc. that we receive this week in the Little Free Food Pantry.  Thank you, knitters, crocheters, loomers, and buyers!

Epiphany Educational Event:  Please join us on January 7, 2018 during coffee hour for a Christian  formation event for all ages. We will share our memories about stars, think about the Epiphany season and do some arts and crafts. This will be fun and there will be glitter glue!

Annual Meeting:  Save the Date – Our annual meeting will be Sunday, January 28, after church.  Plan to bring something for the potluck, if you like, and stay for the festivities.

January Bishop’s Committee Meeting:  Bishop’s Committee will meet on Sunday, January 14, after coffee hour.  Anyone is welcome to attend.  The Bishop’s Committee adopted a budget for 2018 at their meeting on Sunday, December 10.  On January 14 and January 22, copies of the budget will be available at coffee hour so that you can become familiar with it prior to the annual meeting.
