Amy’s Office Hours: During the Truman holiday break, Amy will be maintaining her Thursday Office Hours at Take Root only. Beginning January 14th, the following schedule resumes: Monday—10 am-12 noon Truman SUB; Tuesday mornings—volunteer chaplain at hospital; Wednesday—1 – 3 pm Truman; Thursday 1:00 – 3:00—Take Root. You may also contact the Rev. Amy by email (amy.fallon08@gmail.com) or phone (815-901-3614).
Vicar’s Discretionary Fund: The plate offering this Sunday, December 16, is for the vicar’s discretionary fund. This fund is to provide assistance for people in need; it is called “discretionary” because the vicar makes the decision about if and how much assistance to give. Especially during the winter months, there are many requests from people who need assistance with housing, with gasoline, and with heating expenses. Give generously!
Joanne’s Future Memorial: Joanne’s niece and nephew have requested that Joanne be cremated, in accordance with her wishes, and the ashes sent to them in California. Pending any additional directions from the family, Trinity will hold a memorial service for Joanne here in Kirksville on a date as yet to be determined in January or February 2019. The service will be followed by a reception, where everyone will have a chance to tell their best “Joanne story.” She touched all our lives and I believe she would enjoy a time of laughter and stories.
Will you SMILE on Black Friday/Cyber Monday (and all year round)? If you will be doing Christmas shopping on Amazon, please consider shopping through the Amazon Smile feature. Trinity receives a small percentage of every thing you buy through the Amazon Smile program. It is a great way to benefit the church doing what you already plan to do!
If you are unfamiliar with this feature on Amazon, go to http://smile.amazon.com/about and it will walk you through signing up. Choose Trinity as your charity (warning: there are a lot of Trinity Churches in the program, so be patient scrolling through until you find us) and you are good to go. You will still have all your usual Amazon benefits- Prime, gift cards, etc. The only difference will be logging in at www.smile.amazon.com rather than the usual Amazon site. If you need any help, just let Amy know and she will help you get set up.
Help Us Close the Gap: at our Annual Meeting in January, we passed a budget for 2018 with a deficit of nearly $23,000. Due to your generosity, we have made up some of that deficit over the year, but not quite as much as we had hoped. Please consider a special contribution during December to help us close the gap on our deficit and end the year in a stronger financial position. An anonymous donor has offered to match every donation made to this campaign up to $2000, so whatever you are able to give will be doubled. You may send a check to Trinity or put one in the offering plate any time before Dec. 31st. Please note “Close the Gap” in the memo line.
The Mitten Tree is coming!: Our mitten tree “grew” 129 hats, 3 sets of hats and gloves, 3 sets of hats and scarves, 6 pairs of glove/mittens, and 4 scarves. All were taken on Monday to Salvation Army to be part of their gift distribution this past Thursday. Thanks to all the knitters, crocheters, loomers, and savvy shoppers! A special nod to our dear friend Joanne, who spent the last weeks of her life doubling down on hat production. RIP, Joanne!
Diocesan Statement on Gun Storage: This past spring, the Bishop and the Diocesan Council approved this statement on safe gun storage: “The Council of the Episcopal Diocese of Missouri implores gun owners to lock and secure weapons against use by children or those suffering from agonizing despair. Please ensure that all guns in your home are locked and secured against use by children or those suffering agonizing despair.”
Food Depot: Canned meat/fish (Tuna, Salmon, Chicken).
Little Free Food Pantry: (not thinking about summer heat any more!) – The Little Free Food Pantry is in need of nonperishable food that will stand up to freezing night time temperatures – think dry pasta mixes, cereals, nutrition bars, dry soup mixes, crackers. Bread products are fine – they can be used after freezing.
Lectionary Readings:
