Bible Study on Isaiah—Adult Formation

Our last study on the book of Isaiah is held in meeting room, Tuesday, 26 November, at 6:30 pm, focusing on the fourth passage for the Sundays of Advent.

Trinity Communications Update

Last January at our Bishop’s Committee Retreat, we agreed that we needed to take a look at the communications processes at Trinity. The first step was to change up our “Information & Announcements” Insert, using a new format to provide more information about Trinity events as well as the life of the wider church. The next phase addresses our digital communications. During December, our web site will undergo a makeover that we hope will make it more dynamic and user-friendly. We are considering whether to include a “members only” password protected section which would house private information such as the prayer lists, the directory and server schedules. The debut of the new website is scheduled for January.

Kevin Minch has done heroic service, maintaining the WHAT from locations as diverse as Kirksville, Detroit and China. With a new web site in the future, and with Kevin’s agreement, the WHAT will come to an end with the last week of November. In the interim, until the new website is ready, everyone on the WHAT’s mailing list will receive a pdf copy of the bulletin insert so that they will not miss out on anything that is happening around Trinity.

Upcoming ECM Activities

  • 10 December: Winter Holiday Party at the Vicarage, 7 pm-????. Take a break from study on Reading Day Eve for goodies and fun.

Hat & Mitten Tree

Our annual “mitten tree” goes up today, Christ the King Sunday, November 24.  All donated mittens, gloves, hats, and scarves will be taken to the Salvation Army on Wednesday, December 11.  Parents and caregivers will pick up gifts, including our hats, scarves, gloves, and mittens, for their families beginning December 16.  All shoppers, crocheters, loomers, and knitters are urged to contribute their stuff!

Stewardship Season is HereIt is a joy to give back to God just a bit of what God has so generously given us.  If you have not received your Stewardship package in the mail, please contact Amy or Krista.

We offer this prayer for stewardship discernment:

Abundant God, you made us in your image and breathed in us a spirit of generosity that is both gift and response. Move us, we pray, to give as we have received—abundantly, generously, and joyfully that our common ministry may ever bear witness to your unfailing grace. In the name of the Three in whom we are One.  Amen

Liturgical Notes: Watchful’s Song

Soloist Laura Gruber Harden sings today’s Anthem, accompanied by Scott Alberts.  The song is from Pilgrim’s Progress, an opera by Ralph (pronounced “Rafe”) Vaughan Williams, whose hymn arrangements also grace our Hymnal. Calling the performance a “morality” rather than an opera, Vaughan Williams bases the story on John Bunyon’s 1678 Christian allegory, Pilgrim’s Progress, often identified as the first novel.  Watchful is the porter of the House of the Palace Beautiful, a way-station built by God atop the Hill of Difficulty for pilgrims to find rest. Using words from Isaiah and the Psalms, Watchful’s Nocturne blesses the wayfarers sleeping there that night.
