Our first meeting of Second Sundays Yoga was a rousing success!  Fifteen people attended (roughly half were not from Trinity) and we collected $90 from the session.  Be sure and tell your friends who are looking for a way to practice self-care about this monthly opportunity.

Upcoming Visitor From Africa!

The Bishop’s Committee is very excited that the Rev. Canon Anderson Madimilo from Tanzania in east Africa (just south of our companion diocese of South Sudan) will be visiting Trinity this Sunday!  Canon Madimilo is studying at Eden Theological Seminary in St. Louis. We are excited that he has agreed to travel to be with us the evening of Saturday, September 24 and the morning of Sunday, September 25 and are grateful to the Rev. Warren Crews with Emmanuel-Webster Groves for helping to facilitate the visit.

  • 2000px-flag-map_of_tanzaniaSaturday, September 24, 6:00 p.m.  potluck dinner at the church to welcome and get to know Canon Madimilo.  Please contact Diane Johnson for more information;  if you have already signed up to bring food, thank you!
  • Sunday, September 25:  Canon Madimilo will be at church and then during coffee hour will talk with us about life in Tanzania

Sincerest thanks to everyone who has volunteered to help with Canon Madimilo’s visit;  we are so excited that Canon Madimilo has a place to stay, transportation to and from Kirksville, and help with technology–and will have a delicious meal on Saturday!

socialmedia-pmSocial Media Sunday

In addition to our visitor on Sunday, this Sunday is Social Media Sunday in the Episcopal Church.  You are encouraged to post on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or Snapchat something during the day that lets people see just what Trinity-Kirksville means to you.  What do you think about before you head to church?  What do you love about coffee hour?  Does a hymn or reading move you?  Tell the world!

church-musicAdult Formation

Adult formation continues at 6:30 pm.  Come hear Scott Alberts talk about how music supports the liturgy and our spirituality!  This week we analyzed the dramatic aspects of the Eucharistic liturgy and talked about the role of music in that.

Save the Date!

Here are some upcoming events in the life of Trinity-Kirksville:

  • September 24th – Canon Madimilo’s visit
  • October 7th – Home Eucharist at the home of Joni Perry, 5:30 pm
  • October 19th – Mobile Food Pantry sponsored by Pantry for Adair County 10 am – 12 noon; Contact Maria Evans if you would like to volunteer.
  • October 23rd – Home visit and Eucharist at the home of Lola Lampe, 1:00 p.m.

All Saints Day

origami-craneLooking ahead to All Saints Day, we will once again make origami paper cranes in memory of those close to us who have died.  We will try our luck with the standard pattern for cranes and also try our hand at a pattern for butterflies.  Plan to try out your paper folding skills at coffee hour on Sunday, October 2.

Food Depot Wish List

condimentsOur Food Depot items for September are Sauces and Condiments.  Be creative!  Pick out things like hot sauce, soy sauce, etc., as well as the old standbys ketchup, mustard, and mayo.  Other “sauces in a jar” are great food stretchers, too.  Thanks for your faithfulness in this important ministry.

Also, do you have a passion for feeding people in the community and can devote two hours a month for one lunchtime meeting?  We can use you!  It is helpful, but not required, to partition in the monthly food distribution – at most this amounts to 4-6 hours a month including committee work.  Contact Maria Evans if you feel called to this valuable ministry.  We occupy a unique niche in this organization and your assistance is valuable!

Episcopal News Service Tidbits

This week, the Episcopal News Service stories include a report from the recent House of Bishop’s meeting, and their video, a word to the church for the world.

WHAT Deadlines

The deadline for next week’s WHAT is Noon, Thursday, September 29th.  Please send items to Maria Evans at MLEvans327@gmail.com.  Please be mindful of the deadline when possible.  Thanks!
