book-coverAdult Formation:  We will continue studying John Dominic Crossan’s book How to Read the Bible and Still be a Christian.  You can buy the book in whichever format you prefer here.  It is available new, used, and on Kindle.  We will be doing Chapters 13 and 14 this week.  Please join us for what should be a lively discussion!

We will also be having a special session of Adult Formation at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 8.  We will offer the opportunity to gather at Krista and Tim Baker’s house to watch a webcast hosted by Richard Rohr and Cynthia Bourgealt on “Christian Nonduality” (Note:  Although we plan to hold this at Krista and Tim Baker’s house, be advised we may have a last minute change in venue based on the condition of their driveway.  If you plan on attending, contact Maria for last minute updates.).  Part of opening ourselves up to the possibility of God’s mysteries is to embrace the possibility of “both/and” instead of “either/or.”  Richard and Cynthia will guide us towards ways of developing non-dual ways of looking at life and the world.  Light snacks will be provided by Dana Elam and Maria Evans, and we will have a discussion following the webcast.  Please join us!

The following Wednesday, Jan. 18, at 6:30 p.m. we will begin a new Adult Formation experience – Talie Alexander will be leading us through three Godly Play sessions and we will learn how adults can enter into this way of understanding the narratives of Scripture.  Godly Play isn’t just for children anymore–many people are using it at nursing homes and hospitals with adults.  The series will last three weeks, and should be an enjoyable and enlightening time!

Trinity Financials: Important parish financial information is available for your review in the undercroft. Please take this opportunity to review the 2017 budget as adopted by the Bishop’s Committee, a summary of the Building Project financials, and a narrative summary of the parish financial situation. This will help prepare you for the Annual Meeting on January 29th.

20170104_090431Knit Contributions:  Congratulations to the knitters, crocheted, and others of good will who helped us get 67 hats, 14 pairs of gloves and mittens, and two scarves to the Salvation Army this year!

Save the Date:

  • Sunday, January 29, After Church – Trinity Annual Meeting and Potluck Lunch

Epiphany Toiletry Drive:  The Magi brought gold, frankincense, and myrrh from the East…but this Epiphany, from the north, we bring…toothbrushes and toiletries!

Please look your bathroom vanities and bring any (unused) toothbrushes, toothpaste, and floss from your trips to the dentist, as well as any “travel size” toiletries (deodorant, shampoo, etc.) that you never got around to using, to church.  You can drop them off downstairs in the beautifully decorated gift box Karen Henness made for us.
We will make connections with Deacon Janet Schisser in Columbia and donate these items to Room at the Inn, Central Missouri’s temporary winter cold-weather overnight shelter.  Dental care items and toiletries are one of the most requested items at area shelters.

Food Depot:

Our Food Depot items for January include Canned Soup (avoid creamed soups).  January is a cold month and soup provides a warm, filling, and nutritious food source.

Snow Removal: Please consider donating to the snow removal fund to pay Mike Combs. There is a box on the piano in the undercroft for your contribution. If you would rather shovel, let Krista know.

Episcopal News Service Tidbits:  This week, Episcopal News Service stories include on a terror plot against the Melbourne cathedral and an interesting piece about St. Alban’s Episcopal Church’s (Arlington, TX) use of a working theatre stage for its services.

Lectionary Readings :

NOTE NEW INFORMATION ON SUBMITTING ITEMS BELOW:

The deadline for next week’s WHAT is Noon, Thursday, January 12.  Please send items to BOTH Kevin Minch at kevin.minch@gmail.com and Natalie Alexander at faymie@gmail.com so that any relevant updates may also be included in the bulletin insert. Please be mindful of the deadline when possible.  Thanks!
