CrossesWhat to Expect From Holy Week Services:  We begin Holy Week on Sunday. If the weather allows we will begin outside with The Liturgy of the Palms. Palm Sunday is the only Sunday in the church year when we hear 2 gospel readings. The first reading recounts the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. The second gospel reading is the Passion Gospel. For several years, we have read the Passion Gospel in parts and have let that stand as the homily. On Sunday the appointed lector will read the Passion (This Sunday and Good Friday are the 2 times during the year when our prayer book rubrics allow for lay persons to read the gospel), and then we will hear a brief homily on the gospel.
Maundy Thursday
It is a service of Holy Eucharist. We will not observe foot washing this year. The service will, as in previous years, conclude with the stripping of the altar. If you have never joined us for this service, I hope you will make an effort to be present. It is a moving service.
Good Friday
The service is the most somber of the church year. It begins and ends in silence with the altar stripped. We will hear again the Passion Gospel. and pray the solemn collects.

Easter Flowers: Easter is a meaningful time to give flowers in memory of or in thanksgiving for a loved one.  If you would like to donate toward Easter flowers, designate “Easter flowers” on the memo line of your check (or place cash in a labeled envelop) and put it in the offering plate.  Your memorial or thanksgiving wording for the bulletin should be given to Jessie, Wynne, or Talie.

Intern Housing Needed: Our church is hosting clergy and four interns from the Deaconess Anne program on Saturday night, April 29, and Sunday morning, April 30. Campus ministry groups from United Methodist Church and First Presbyterian Church will be joining our guests and ECM for a vegetarian supper on Saturday. If you are interested in contributing a dish for the meal, please talk with Diane Johnson.
communion_mdCommunion with Lola Lampe:  Communion with Lola Lampe – Parishioners will gather this Sunday at 1 p.m. at the church to carpool to Lola Lampe’s residence southeast of Kirksville.  Lola and Vince Lampe were faithful Trinity members for many years, serving as representatives of the church in Kirksville Interchurch Ministry, taking our food donations to the Christian Community Food Depot every week, and giving us an initial push to get started on the accessibility project with gifts from the celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary.  If you haven’t yet met Lola, you are in for a treat.  If it’s been a while since you’ve been able to tell her how much we appreciate her, this is your chance.  Hope you will join us Sunday for a brief communion visit.
Mini Food PantryLittle Free Food Pantry:  Thanks to the work of Cybil Wriedt and the Henness family, the Little Free Food Pantry is a reality!  The pantry has been living in the undercroft for the past few weeks. Saturday it was installed at the base of the Harrison Street entrance to the church.  Anyone can place nonperishable food items and personal care items in it, and people can take what they need.  The Little Free Food Pantry takes its inspiration from the Little Free Library concept.  For more information, see http://www.npr.org/sections/thesalt/2017/01/11/508931473/a-new-type-of-food-pantry-is-sprouting-in-yards-across-america.
Easter Brunch:  You are invited to the special coffee hour/Easter dinner after church on April 16.  There will be ham and breakfast casserole and all manner of good things to eat.  Please join us for a late brunch or your Easter dinner.  The signup sheet is in the undercroft.  It will help the planners if you indicate what type of dish you hope to bring.  If you cannot bring a dish, please bring your appetite and your Easter joy!  Invite a friend!

LM_Widget_VLent Madness:  Well, well, well, there have been some interesting reversals of fortune as we now reach the phase of the competition where we start looking at “Who’s still in this?” instead of “What’s everyone’s scores?

So…who’s still in the hunt in Lent Madness at Trinity, and who have they placed their hopes upon?
Krista has held onto her slim lead with 12 correct, and they have chosen Martin Luther to take it all  Not to be outdone, Julia DeLancey’s cats are right behind her and have also placed their hopes on Martin Luther.  Sue Granger has 10 and has deemed Amelia Bloomer to win. Julia is still hanging in there with 9 correct and has Florence Nightengale to win.
Others with a chance at making the final round but are behind the leaderboard on point totals are Boomer and Little Eddie (Martin Luther to win), and Sally (Florence Nightengale).  They hang on by the thinnest of threads hoping Fanny Crosby busts everyone’s bracket and we go back to the tie-breaking method of seeing how many everyone has in the final rounds going backwards.
Sue’s dogs, Julie Seidler,  Maria Evans, and Ian have been mathematically eliminated for a while now.
So, gang, it’s all about these last few matches.  For folks at Trinity, it all hinges on whether Martin Luther, Amelia Bloomer, Florence Nightengale, or Fanny Crosby advance.
Stay tuned!  The fun never stops in Lent Madness!

Food Depot:

Our Food Depot items for April:  Food stretchers – pasta, noodles, rice, and beans.

Asset Mapping:  Last Sunday, folks at coffee hour generated quite a sizable list of Trinity’s physical assets and institutional assets (and used quite a few post-it notes!)  If you weren’t at church Sunday, and you’d like to submit your list of what you believe Trinity’s physical assets include (i.e. the physical things/structures/items that are an asset to us as a faith community) and Trinity’s institutional assets (the things directly associated with us as a church institution within a denomination), please email them to Maria Evans, and she’ll include them on the list.  We want everyone to have an opportunity to participate!

Lectionary Readings (Palm Sunday):

The Liturgy of the Palms

The Liturgy of the Word
